Staff Software Engineer, Identity & Security Foundations @ Box Inc.
Who you are:
- You have 8+ years of experience in backend development, including leading significant technical initiatives.
- You’ve worked on mission-critical systems, ideally in areas like identity, authentication, OAuth.
- You write clean, maintainable code in Java and have strong experience with Spring Boot
- You think in terms of platforms, not just features—you build with extensibility and maintainability in mind.
- You have experience operating large-scale distributed systems with high uptime and security expectations.
- You’re comfortable mentoring engineers and collaborating across cross-functional teams.
- You thrive in a well-structured environment and enjoy building scalable solutions in established, mature systems
Requirements that are Welcome:
- Experience in enterprise security or authentication domains.
- Familiarity with zero trust models and device posture management.
- Experience with cloud platforms like GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Prior experience working on internal platforms or systems that require high reliability and compliance
**Our compensation structure is the base salary and equity in the form of restricted stock units.

About the Team:
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Content Creation team, you will be at the forefront of real time applications within Box. Being one of the core applications, we are one of the first stops customers make when using Box platform. You will play an integral role in paving the future path for what it means to generate content within Box.
The Content Creation owns Notes and Canvas products of Boxs platform. The functionality that this team builds is used by our largest cohorts of users (versus just admin users). They are the only true real-time service at Box, using web sockets to deliver a real-time editing product. Its a complex problem space that we are experts in, and its a great team to join if you want to contribute to creating one of the most vital Box products. The team is mostly developing Front-End with react.js, for Back-End tasks they use mostly node.js.

We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Security Products & Platforms organization. Spanning teams across Redwood City and Warsaw, this group builds some of Box’s most critical systems, delivering world-class access security. In this role, you’ll drive key initiatives, collaborating closely with product and infrastructure teams. We’re seeking a technically strong engineer who excels in platform-level thinking, has experience with large-scale systems, and is motivated by the challenges of building highly available, secure services for enterprise customers. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role reporting directly to the Director of Engineering.
